CAMBRIDGE ESL

Cambridge Assessment English Exams (A2 KEY, B1 Preliminary, B2 First, C1 Advanced) are accepted by over 20,000 universities and employers around the world. They offer exams for every level so students can track their language process.
Given that CIA is accredited and fully recognized by Cambridge, we have professional teachers who are suitable and productive in teaching these to our students. We guarantee that our students will have efficient knowledge and learning of the English Language with Cambridge standards.

Students take a placement test so we can determine the most appropriate curriculum. All certificates are lifelong qualifications. Exams are around 3 – 4 hours in total. There are 4 papers:

• Cambridge Class Description 1:1 CLASSES

In Cambridge Listening Class, students get better by listening to materials that are standard of the Cambridge listening test. Students get to hear monologues like announcements, radio broadcasts, speeches, talks, lectures, anecdotes, etc.; or interact with other speakers via interviews and discussions with various accents used in the test. Students are exposed to the different question types and will have thorough understanding of the different techniques needed to answer them.

In Cambridge Speaking Class, students get to learn a myriad of simple tricks to make them more confident when speaking to the examiner. They get to experience the different parts of the speaking test either individually or interactively with a partner or with the examiner. They get to express themselves in personal, general and abstract levels of questioning and answering. Students are exposed to the right language particularly used for a particular level.

In Cambridge Reading Class, students get to read Cambridge reading materials. In class, they are taught how to improve reading and comprehension speed. They learn specific techniques how to eliminate answers and find the right one. Grammar is essential skill, so students are exposed to grammar topics commonly used in the test. Presentation of grammar topics is thematic so there is organized flow of grammar instructions.

In Cambridge Writing Class, students experience guided-writing instructions. Students are intensively exposed to a class of structured writing, relevant to the Cambridge Writing Test. The use of appropriate language both in lexis and grammar are emphasized so students can create a piece of writing acceptable to the standards of academic writing.

• Small Group Classes (6 ~ 8 students)

Conversation Group Class
This class is designed to engage students in dialogues that simulate real-world situations, providing them with useful conversational skills. The students learn about specific real-life conversations and gain confidence in various aspects of communication.

• CAMBRIDGE MEDIUM Group Classes (8 ~ 12 students)

Clinic Classes (4 Macro Skills)
Clinic classes for each course are intended as a separate class as a venue for reviewing weekly Mock Test. This is designed for students to be able to have full understanding of the taken weekly Mock Test of which will cater test content clarity, clarifications of answers, further relevant instructions featured specifically in the test, speaking techniques and discussion of the outline of the sample answers per writing. As this is done per skill, students will have a thorough understanding of each skill’s techniques and strategies based on the given focused skill according to level. This means that our teachers have relevant supplementary materials per level needed to cover comprehensive explanation of answers in the given Mock Test.

Listening Clinic Class
Students will get to understand the explanation of answers in the different listening sections of the listening test. This includes understanding test techniques needed to use per question type, spotting keywords, determining paraphrased ideas or words in the test paper and the audio material used, understanding main idea to find the answer, understanding sounds or material in different accent, or understanding scripts which imply a different scenario, etc.

Reading Clinic Class
Students will get to understand the explanation of answers in the different reading passages of the reading test. This includes understanding test techniques needed to use per question type. These techniques can be finding out the meaning of key words in questions, where to spot answers per question type, learn techniques how to get a specific answer through paraphrasing of key words, etc.

Speaking Clinic Class
Students will get to learn sample answers per question given in the test. These sample answers will help students improve their use of better words or suitable words per context, suggested ideas for longer, suitable responses. Each question will be explained based on how to respond with right length, time, and approach of different starts and endings. Students will understand the primary ingredients needed to respond abstract questioning and questions of personal topics in speaking. They get to learn the use of comparing, giving opinion, predicting, etc. They are guided with producing the right sounds when speaking so as to deliver with clarity.

Writing Clinic Class
Students will be exposed to sample answers of a particular writing question from the taken Mock Test. This is the time for them to understand a step by step guide in responding a writing task of arguing, explaining, demonstrating opinion, comparing ideas, etc. The outline per response is essential for students to come up with similar outline as application in later writing. Students are also given specific words needed for the task, so there is absorption according to their own pace. Ideas are also suggested so as to help them achieve the right length per writing, with specific grammar topics needed for the task.

• SELF STUDY AND SELF WRITING (LIBRARY)

CAMBRIDGE SELF WRITING Clinic
The materials for this class are designed to develop students ‘familiarity to the writing prompts and to build their confidence in responding to them. Although students complete the task with little or no assistance, the Writing teachers constantly check the student’s work providing immediate feedback and opportunities to apply recently learned concepts and strategies.

If you do not submit or do not write the required amount of words it will be counted as absent / During your 1:1 class your writing from the Previous day will be checked

• Notes

- Mock test happens twice (2x) a month in flexible periods (not necessarily during 9th and 10th periods)

- Test may last 2 days according to the Cambridge Test.

- It is optional to add Man-to-Man classes instead of small/medium group classes with additional payment.

- ‘Cambridge’ course is for learners who want lifelong and internationally-recognized qualification for work and study. CIA will help you demonstrate your language ability to live and work independently in English-speaking countries or to study on courses taught in English by gaining the standard English qualifications. As you prepare for the exam, you will improve your confidence and develop every aspect of English to your desired level.

TOEIC

(Test Of English for International Communication) The TOEIC program aims to prepare students for business and academic purposes. Through daily and weekly mock tests, student can enhance their TOEIC speaking, listening, reading, writing, and test-taking abilities. Also, they can develop their time management skills and increase their information processing, efficiency and awareness. With this course, we have a guarantee program that would assure students to progress and improve. CIA’s TOEIC teachers are also passionate and well-trained; their main goal is to assist and help students reach their goal and their target Public Test score.

  • This is a preparatory course for TOEIC Regular and Guarantee courses.

  • Must be above TOEIC 380 or IELTS 3.0
  • This course gives the students the ultimate flexibility to prepare for the TOEIC test easily. The curriculum is based on authentic test materials enriched with everyday-workplace situations which are personalized to suit student’s language level.

  • This course effectively prepares students to the rigor of the public TOEIC test. Students are guaranteed to reach their target scores within 12 weeks.

• TOEIC Small Group Classes (6 ~ 8 students)

TOEIC Grammar Class
This class is designed to give you the fundamental and advanced grammar rules and principles that are most commonly used in the TOEIC test. It aims to give students a chance to systematically practice the skills to be successful in the TOEIC test and improve the overall knowledge on the English grammar.

TOEIC Vocabulary Class
This class exposes you to a wide range of vocabulary and helps you understand them in specialized contexts that are often used in TOEIC. The lessons are tailored to improve students’ ability to succeed in the vocabulary part of the test and enhance your knowledge of language found throughout the TOEIC Reading and Listening tests.

• TOEIC Middle Group Classes (8 ~ 12 students)

TOEIC Clinic Class
This class aims to help students build test-taking confidence by setting realistic language goals and by using effective strategies to overcome the challenges of the weekly two-hour mock tests.

• SELF STUDY AND SELF WRITING (SSR)

Only for TOEIC students. Instead of SELF-STUDY WRITING in ESL, TOEIC students must have SELF-STUDY READING. There are 15 items to be answered. For REGULAR students, they have to get 10 points and for PRE-TOEIC, they have to get 7 points. The words will be discussed the following day. SS-Teacher in-charge is not allowed to give them the answers. It's students challenge to change their answers if they still have time.

IELTS

(International English Language Testing System)
As part of our mission to cater all the needs of the students, we also offer Examination Preparation Test like IELTS. This program is to prepare students who wish to take IELTS, taken by our students who need or want to study, work or live abroad where English is used as the main medium of communication.
Learning Goal: To teach students the techniques and strategies thoroughly in answering IELTS Public test so as they can achieve their desired band score for whatever reasons they may serve.

IELTS at CIA:

CIA ensures all students taking IELTS course will have visible improvement in IELTS. We have trained IELTS teachers that will help our students study to reach their target score in IELTS Public Test. With our IELTS course, we ensure that we can meet the students’ expectations towards our IELTS classes with utmost, thorough and comprehensive coverage of the test, the fundamental techniques and strategies for all macro skills to achieve their desired band score. We have varied selection of materials according to IELTS standards and structures suitable to every student’s English level.   • This course prepares students for the IELTS Test modules. With no target band score, the students can fully take advantage of the flexible period of study reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary for at least four weeks.

• IELTS Class Description 1:1 CLASSES

IELTS Speaking Class in CIA is designed to encourage students to speak, and are assessed on the basis of their speech. At CIA students are readied to respond to different speaking parts and questions types. They are backed-up with techniques to come up with structured answers relevant to the questions. Vocabulary and expressions and grammar are the biggest part in the class for students to describe their thoughts and ideas in different context.

IELTS Listening Class is where students get to familiarize the different sections and question types. They are taught specific approaches to respond to every question type. They get to listen following thorough and clear transitions of one material to the other focusing on a specific skill. Certain listening attitudes are integrated in class to expose students to different accents, intonations, sounds as a way to comprehend any text well.

IELTS Reading Class is the time for students to train themselves with the actual reading materials to test their reading ability to comprehend and respond in a short time. At CIA students get to know skimming, scanning, paraphrasing, key wording etc. which are the primary components to answer reading promptly. They get to use the different approaches in answering different types of questions (Yes/No/Not Given, Completion Tasks, Matching, Classification, Short Answer Questions, etc.). Constant reading exercises are given to practice students in a given period.

IELTS Writing Class in CIA helps students to be familiar with the different writing structures in different types of writing: description essay, opinion essay or business letter writing. Students are exposed to an environment of guided writing. Writings are done everyday which are checked by teachers in class. Wrong grammar and word usage are corrected, explained and applied. Language and grammar enhancement are integrated for individual writing sessions that give students the freedom to apply in their own pace.

• IELTS Small Group Classes (6 ~ 8 students)

IELTS Grammar Class
Although the IELTS test does not include a specific grammar module, it is important to be able to recognize and achieve a higher grammatical accuracy. The objective of this class is to strengthen student’s understanding of the grammar principles through effective strategies and tasks in contexts most relevant to the IELTS Test.

IELTS Vocabulary Class
This class aims to extend and improve the accuracy of both general and academic vocabulary. Students acquire new words through listening and reading texts that reflect the materials used in the IELTS test, that are then reinforced in both speaking and writing skills.

• IELTS Middle Group Classes (8 ~ 12 students)

IELTS Clinic Class
IELTS CLINIC is a class designed to equip students with test-taking skills and to give them confidence in taking the IELTS Test whether it is General Training or Academic Training. Students are guided to master the different sections through in-depth instructions and exam – technique as reinforces during the weekly mock test.

• SELF STUDY AND SELF WRITING (SSR)

For students to discipline themselves in writing, they need to comply with the compulsory daily writing depending on the module type taken. The Daily Self- writing is a good venue for students to apply all the writing skills, techniques and tips learned in the IELTS Writing Class and Clinic Class to produce a composition following the standard required for the IELTS Writing Test. During students’ 1:1 writing class, their writing teachers will have thorough corrections, explanations and suggests for improvements.

BUSINESS

This program aims to help students grow into business professionals by acquiring essential English skills for job applications or the workplace.
Students enrolled in this program learn vocabulary and expressions used mainly in the business process as well as the fundamentals in creating presentations, conducting meetings, negotiating deals, and drafting documents (e.g., business letters) in English.
Learning Goal: CIA takes pride in how our teaching method helps students learn English, especially with the Business English course. We make sure students leave CIA with a deep grasp of the language in business context, and are able to execute their learning in the real world of business.

*Business English has a specific purpose. Therefore, it can be considered a specialism within English language learning and teaching. Many non-native English speakers study the subject with the goal of doing business with corporations of English-speaking countries, or with companies located outside the English speaking world but which nonetheless use English as a shared language.

• BUSINESS Small Group Classes (6 ~ 8 students)

The class comprises 4-6 students intending to learn business context and settings. They are given ample opportunity to showcase their language skills in the context of business of which they can present their ideas, interact, discuss, exchange dialogues, experience giving presentations, and present reports in front of other students.

• Medium Group Classes (8 ~ 12 students)

Native Group Class
English is best learned by students through rich interactions with native English speakers. By listening to them, students can acquire proper pronunciation and expressions useful for effective communication. Moreover, students will be engaged in conversations that will ultimately enhance their listening skills.

Callan Group Class
The Callan Method is a quick and efficient way to learn English as a foreign language for all students. The method is designed specifically to improve student’s listening and speaking abilities in a lively and active environment. Also, students' learning is reinforced by essential ESL fundamentals as they learn to correct their own errors via helpful tips.

World News Group Class
In this class, students focus on increasing their vocabulary and grammar awareness by watching news from various ESL countries, and participating in extended and in-depth conversations. Through dictation, students can improve their listening as well as speaking skills.

• Big Group Classes (12 above)

In Big Group Classes, students will experience fun and interesting lesson plans while helping themselves become more confident when using English in real-life situations. This will develop their social interactions, team work, and creativity with other students in class. This is a foundation for students to showcase how much they have learned by what they can contribute in class discussions.

• SELF STUDY AND SELF WRITING (SSR)

Self-study time is a guided instruction in which students have to complete their daily self-writing. This is then checked by their 1:1 writing class teacher. Their essays are assessed, corrected, explained and elaborated. Additionally, it's an outlet for students for clarifications. This is a compulsory-guided task that students should submit prior to attending their 1:1 writing classes.

WORKING HOLIDAY

This program aims to prepare students who wish to acquire a Working Holiday Program (WHP) visa for Australia or Canada for academic and professional purposes. Students of all levels are welcome to enroll in this program. They will be introduced to the Australian and New Zealand accent and to the ways of living there. Also, they will be able to acquire interview and conversational skills, and create an impressive resume or curriculum vitae.

*After completing this Course, our school will help you at an additional cost to help you settle in Australia by assisting in the discussions with your Australian consultant. Basically, teachers can help you prep.

Integrated Group Class
This class integrates the macro-skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing with embedded grammar and vocabulary lessons.
It aims to encourage students to participate actively in the learning process so that they know what they are learning, why they are learning it, and how they will be able to apply the language outside the classroom.
The materials used in this class are selected with a specific purpose, that is, to give direction to the student’s learning.

Native Group Class

• Big Group Classes (20 above)

You may choose one of the following fun and interesting classes while helping you become more confident with using English in real-life situations. These classes are tailored to provide students with language enhancement opportunities and extra support.

• SELF STUDY AND SELF WRITING (SSR)

This class is a training ground for students to write essays through self writing lessons which will be checked during their 1:1 class. Failure to submit and reach the required word counts, the student is considered absent. Depending on the course and level, students must write from 60-150 words.

FAMILY & JUNIOR

Cebu International Academy offers summer and winter English camps to family and young individuals who wish to develop their English skills in an enjoyable and interactive atmosphere. We ensure comfort of the accommodation and the choice of activities close-by so as to ensure harmonious combinations of language learning.
Learning Goal: The most fun and exciting course we have does not only make students enjoy various off-campus activities, but they also get to learn English and interact with other students of different nationalities. Our teachers always make sure that students can learn and have fun at the same time.
